Have you ever noticed how people seem to come to a sudden and dramatic realization of the Truth of Jesus Christ? Christianity has existed for over 2000 years, yet people continue to come to the Lord with a sudden realization that makes it seem like they are hearing the story for the first time.
I’m sure for some, it is true that they’ve never really heard a clear presentation of the Gospel. That is a sad fact, especially in our “Christian Nation” when there are so many that claim to be Christians. For most though, I think it is something else.
Recently during a sermon, the pastor referenced a passage that really clicked for me and and perhaps sheds some light on the topic. In II Corinthians 4:4 it says, “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (NIV)
So basically, Satan is blinding the unbelievers. When the Gospel is shared with them, and it clicks, they literally are seeing clearly for the first time. It really is a new revelation to them.
For those of us who have been Believers, it’s a little hard to understand why it seems so fresh and new to them, like it’s a brand new discovery. Along with that freshness though, usually comes an enthusiasm. Perhaps we would do well to learn from their passion and try to rekindle a bit of it in our own walk.
